about sarah's closet
Sarah's Closet exists to help children and teens in foster care experience dignity, confidence, and belonging through the gift of brand-new clothing and accessories. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to feel comfortable, confident, and cared for, especially during seasons of uncertainty and transition.
Thanks to the support of our community, donations and fundraising efforts become more than clothing, they become opportunities for children in foster care to shop, choose, and express who they are. Every item selected helps foster dignity, confidence, and a renewed sense of hope.
But Sarah's Closet is more than a nonprofit, it is a legacy of love. To truly understand the heart behind this mission and why it matters so deeply, you first need to know the remarkable young woman who inspired it all: Sarah.
sarah's story

Some people leave footprints. Sarah left smiles.
Sarah Elizabeth Nadeau Wisely lived with a joy that was impossible to miss. She had a gift for making people feel comfortable, welcomed, and loved. Whether she was sharing a laugh, striking up a conversation with a stranger, or simply spending time with family and friends, Sarah had a way of brightening every room she entered.
"What's the point of going through struggles if you don't turn them around into something good, something positive?"
the heart behind sarah's closet
She loved fashion, music, chewy candy, late-night trips to Walmart or Wawa, sitting by the ocean with her dad, swimming, and feeling the freedom of riding on the back of a motorcycle. She loved meeting people from all walks of life and hearing their stories. Most of all, Sarah loved life.
She was a fighter in every sense of the word.
Time and again, Sarah faced circumstances that could have defined her life, but she refused to be defined by them. Instead, she became an inspiration to others by embracing who she was and encouraging others to do the same. Her scars were not something she hid, they were reminders of everything she had overcome and every battle she had fought to continue living the life she loved.
Sarah believed that struggles could be transformed into something meaningful. She often spoke about using her experiences to encourage others and help them recognize their own strength, beauty, and worth. Her resilience, compassion, and unwavering spirit touched countless lives.
On December 5, 2024, Sarah passed away at the age of 31, leaving behind a legacy of courage, kindness, and love. Though her time here was far too short, her impact continues to be felt by everyone who knew her.
Sarah's Closet was created by her family to honor that legacy.
What began as a desire to keep Sarah's light shining has grown into a mission of bringing confidence, dignity, and hope to children in foster care. Through every child served, every smile shared, and every act of kindness extended, Sarah's spirit lives on, continuing to inspire others just as she always did.

“To bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.”
— Isaiah 61:3
